Abstract

Ecosystems in general have been experiencing an increasing increase in the process of contamination by pollutants and drugs from agricultural, urban and industrial activities. The measurement of the main contaminants in the environment depends on several factors, where the main concern is with the effects that these substances and medicines can have on the environmental species, mainly the marine invertebrates, in order to harm the ecosystem as a whole. Based on these problems, there are biomarkers that constitute an efficient approach in studies in assessing environmental impacts, identifying real effects that are occurring in living beings exposed to polluted environments. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to analyze data, based on a literature review on marine invertebrates as drug biomarkers. In order to achieve the objective of this work, the methodology used was exploratory research, with the data collection being the bibliographic survey. The choice of the theme is justified because it reflects the importance of the concern with the environment and mainly with the species present in the aquatic environment, due to its vulnerability due to the exposure to various products and substances that can compromise the viability of these organisms. This study sought to assist the population on the importance of concern with marine invertebrates and their exposure to drugs and substances that can cause damage not only to them, but in the entire environment.
