Contribution to the knowledge of macrofungi in an urban fragment of Cerrado in Central Brazil.

Fungi are ubiquitous organisms that provide essential ecosystem services, which are currently being affected by anthropogenic disturbances and habitat fragmentation, leading to the extinction of undescribed species. Macrofungi were inventoried in a fragment of cerrado stricto sensu and on the wooded campus of the Federal University of Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso, Brazil, including lawns and exposed soil surrounding the masonry buildings. Monthly collections were conducted from 2023 to 2024, during both the rainy and dry seasons. Specimens were air-dried, photographed to scale, and identified. A total of 59 species were recorded, distributed across 35 genera, 24 families, and nine orders, within Basidiomycota (91.5%) and Ascomycota. Agaricales was the richest order (32 species, 14 families), with Agaricaceae being the most representative family. Agaricus, Marasmius, and Auricularia were the most well-represented genera. Various basidioma forms were observed, including earthstar, puffball, dead man's finger, coal ball, gelatinous, Judas’s ear, coral-like, bird’s nest, cup, funnel, bracket, and mushroom types. These results expand the mycological knowledge of the Cerrado in the state.
