This article analyzes the main techniques used for identifying pathogens in water supply, based on data from the Water Quality Surveillance Information System for Human Consumption (SISAGUA) between 2020 and July 2023. Three methodologies were discussed: molecular techniques (PCR), immunological techniques (immunofluorescence), and bacterial culture. In addition to presenting a national overview of microbiological compliance, the study highlights recent trends of increasing samples outside the standard. The analysis emphasizes the importance of continuous monitoring and the combined application of methods to strengthen water safety.
