Multicentric lymphoma of immunophenotype B in a FeLV positive young domestic feline: case report

Abstract

Lymphoma is a common hematopoietic neoplasm in felines, accounting for up to 30% of neoplasms in the species and 90% of hematopoietic neoplasms. Its classification is based on anatomical, morphological, immunophenotypic, and molecular aspects. Risk factors include age, breed, and concomitant infections by FeLV or FIV, with the FeLV virus being a factor that increases the risk of lymphoma by 60 times. Diagnosis includes clinical analysis, cytology, histopathology, and immunophenotyping. The aim of this study is to report a case of multicentric lymphoma with B immunophenotype in a young FeLV-positive domestic cat, discussing the clinicopathological aspects and the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches adopted. A 1-year and 5-month-old male feline patient initially presented with hyporexia and lymphadenomegaly. After cytology and PCR PARR, combined with clinical aspects, the cat was diagnosed with B immunophenotype lymphoma. The patient underwent the CHOP chemotherapy protocol, but despite intensive care, returned to the hospital with discomfort and complications, later progressing to death during the intraoperative period of an esophagostomy procedure. It is concluded that the presence of retrovirosis has a direct influence on the patient's prognosis, impacting survival rate and quality of life.
