The role of women in family farming

The aim of this paper is to highlight that, even today, the work carried out by women in both public and rural areas is often not recognized or valued economically, and is often seen only as assistance to their husbands. The analysis of the data reveals that women in family farming face unique challenges and that, despite progress, there is still a long way to go to ensure that they have full access to all the opportunities and resources necessary to thrive. Despite these difficulties, they stand out for their coping strategies and resilience, often finding creative and effective ways to contribute to the success and sustainability of agricultural properties. The creation of more inclusive and effective public policies, focused on women’s empowerment and technical support, is essential for the sustainable development of the sector and for the promotion of gender equality in the countryside.
