Abstract

The search for the ideal body, driven by a standard of beauty imposed by the media and society, has become an obsession nowadays. This has made the indiscriminate use of drugs for weight loss become an increasingly common practice among overweight or obese groups of people. With the objective of characterizing the risks of the indiscriminate use of medicines to lose weight and highlighting the importance of the pharmacist's role at the time of dispensing these medicines, the present research was developed, in which a bibliographic study was adopted, with the use of different works. It is very important that people who seek weight loss drugs are aware of the adverse effects caused by them, in order to avoid the harmful consequences that self-medication can bring. In this context, the pharmacist is the professional who has the knowledge to provide the necessary guidelines to favor an adequate treatment, according to the needs of each individual, so that their performance is of fundamental importance.
