Taxonomy of Inga obtusata (Leguminosae): an almost unknown species in the states of Mato Grosso and Rondônia, Brazil

Inga obtusata (Leguminosae) is an endemic species in Brazil, with occurrence restricted to the state of Amazonas, according to the latest taxonomic revision for the genus, as well in “Flora do Brasil 2020”. However, online data show the occurrence of the species in others Brazil states. The work aimed to contribute to the current geographic distribution of I. obtusata, through exsiccate analysis in the Herbário da Amazônia Meridional (HERBAM) and online data, offering morphological description, photographs, phytogeographic and taxonomic comments for the species. The morphological study was carried out at the Plant Morphology Laboratory located at HERBAM, University Campus of Alta Floresta, Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso. The present work reaffirms the occurrence of Inga obtusata in the states of Mato Grosso and Rondônia, in addition to Amazonas, with the presence of extrafloral nectaries in the main vein of the last pairs of leaflets, unprecedented information for the species. The work shows the importance of high-resolution digitized exsiccates, available online, in the study of Brazilian flora.
